As the rise of capitalism, the use of money becomes an
inevitable part in people’s daily life. To live, people deal with money
everyday at everywhere. Although money is an important component of modern
society, I think it’s not safe to say that money is completely bad, or money creates
monsters. Money is considered to be a medium of exchange. It is a measure of
value. People create the monetary system to better standardize the world. I
think it’s more reasonable to link monsters to people who crave for money
rather than money itself. According Bible, “for the love of money is a root of
all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith
and pierced themselves with many grieves.”
A great example of greedy people who act monstrously can be
seen in the movie Maleficent. Maleficent
was a powerful witch living in a magical forest. She met with a peasant named
Stefan when they were young. As they grew up, Stefan became more and more
ambitious. When he heard that the King was trying to conquer the forest, he drugged
Maleficent and cut her ring in exchange for marring the Princess and the wealth
of the kingdom. This is a typical example of a person who is controlled by
greed pursuing money and power no matter who he will hurt and what he will pay
for.
As Benjamin Franklin says, “money never made a man happy
yet, nor will it. The more a man has, the more he wants. Instead of filling a
vacuum, it makes one.” The true monster hides deeply inside people’s hearts,
and it will turn people to monsters when people put money in their hearts
rather than in their heads.
I agree with what you said about it's people who crave money that are the monsters and not money that makes monsters. There are plenty of people that have money that only do things beneficial or generous with it. Not everyone rich wants to keep getting rich or does something monstrous because they have money and think they can do what they want. Money is just a factor than can create a monster if people treat it the wrong way.
