Honestly, I don't enjoy the show Futurama that much, but my roommates do so I catch myself watching it every once in a while. I find entertainment in a couple of the characters especially Bender. Bender is an industrial metalworking robot that was created in Mexico in order to bend large pieces of steel. He is actually very human-like as he shows emotions, talks like humans and acts like humans. He's just like a human except for the fact that he isn't afraid of death. One episode has his head falling off and his friends go to retrieve the head like a thousand years in the future and he just asks what took them so long. Some humans say they aren't afraid of death, but once in the moment about to die I think most would be terrified.
Bender represents a stereotypical man in today's society. He was designed to do one job. When Bender is not working he is often drinking alcohol and/or smoking cigars. He has many intimate relationships throughout the series and is often called a womanizer because he will go for almost any women, whether human or robot, and try to sleep with them. Men today usually go to work to perform one job and many of them go home to alcohol. Men do this for many reasons such as to forget the dreadful day they had or to relax after the long days worth of work. Also, many men go through divorce which may cause them to drink more. Single guys usually will go for almost any women especially if they are drunk. For Bender, it's the same as single guys in today's society. Another reason Bender represents a stereotypical man in today's society is that he does have a sympathy side. He is often heard in the series saying "kill all humans". However, he has a "do not kill list" which includes a few of his human friends and he is also shown expressing his feelings at various moments throughout the series. Men today act all tough, but most of them have an emotional side and if watched carefully can be shown just how Bender expresses his own feelings.
Bender reconfirms what we think a human is by representing a human as a robot. He is made to be an entertaining and funny character, when in fact almost everything he does represents a single, alcoholic man in today's society.
