Stan vs. Cyborg Stan

In an episode of American Dad! titled "May the Best Stan Win," Stan is faced with a half-man, half-cyborg version of himself from the future. In the beginning of the episode it shows present day Stan as being very selfish and ignoring his wife. When Cyborg Stan appears later in the episode, Stan and his wife are fighting about how he doesn't appreciate her. We soon see that Cyborg Stan is very similar to Stan, but the biggest difference is what kind of husband they are. Cyborg Stan takes Stan's wife on a day full of fun and romantic activities. Before you know it, she wants to leave her husband for the cyborg version of him.
I think one of the most common fears that people, or more specifically men have about robots is them taking away their jobs. They aren't just taking their jobs, they're now taking their wives.  Most men take pride in their wives and being able to support them, but this is getting taken away. During their day together, Cyborg Stan grabs Stan's wife and flies through the air all the way to their house. This is something the regular man simply can't compete with. Cyborg Stan does no wrong when it comes to women and is where the difference between him and a human is most obvious. In the end, Stan wins her over by pouring his heart out to her. This is the one area where humans seem to always have the advantage over robots. This helped confirm our beliefs that robots are not able to reach humans on that emotional level.

  1. I actually have never seen this episode, but have seen the show multiple times which got me interested. This got me thinking about the more popular robots I know of. I realized most of the famous robots from movies and T.V. shows that I know of are male with only a few female ones that I can think of. That being said, I believe most men are more scared of their jobs being taken and robots taking over because male robots are the ones that people are most aware of. You don't here much about females being nervous of their jobs being taken over by robots because its not shown in the media. This was what Stan was afraid of in American Dad and it makes perfect sense. Men are afraid of robots coming in and taking over their jobs and possibly more than that of their lives. This is because we as men know we are far from perfect because that's who we are. Robots will be able to do things perfect which may be better for jobs, but men have heart to rely on when it comes to other factors of their lives such as loving their wives even when they don't want to do everything they enjoy doing. Men will still always be able to show emotion and robots will not. This is why Stan ended up winning his wife back in American Dad and it's why men will always beat out robots in most factors of their lives.
